unfinished to finished

i thought i'd pop in to make a quick post before nigh nigh time..

It's been a productive couple of days. i completed the gorgeous little robot sofite for my son [shown below] and he absolutely loves it! As soon as he saw it come out from the unfinished project box, he was begging me to finish it - 'mum are you finished yet? can i take it to bed? can i cuddle him now?!'

He named it Kylie ["kylie the boy"] after a family friend. How cute!

i have also been working on the 'Darci's Dress Up' quilt and am proud to say that I have finished all the embelishment and have even sewn all the blocks together. i am now working on the decorative outside border and created the below pinwheels using the Tri-Recs Tool for the very first time. i am quite chuffed about how wonderfully they turned out, not bad for my first attempt.

Three down.....thirty three to go! *sigh*

i also need to find a project of the hand sewing type before craft group tomorrow night. i recently purchased an unusual Alice in Wonderland embroidery pattern from [Cate Anevski] on [Etsy] so i might give that a go.

...goodnight bloggers...zZzZzZzZzZzZzZz

christmas and crafts

i should start off by wishing everyone a...

In the days leading up to Christmas i spent most of my time at the machine, fashioning gifts for my 2 gorgeous children and my family [yes very last minute i know hehe]. So i've added some photos below of my creations:

i purchased the pattern for the above doll's quilt at [FrozenKnickers] on [Etsy] in July and started to make it but as i found other interesting things to create, it was left behind, unfinished. So on Friday i picked it up and decided that it wouldn't take very long to finish and it would go perfectly with the little doll diapers and bibs that i had already made for my Heidi bear for Christmas. Instead of using 1 piece of fabric for the backing, i patched together some of my scrap pieces.

As mentioned in my previous post, i just about finished my son's quilt and gave it to him this morning and he was wrapped! i still haven't hand sewn the appliqued words on yet because i ran out of time, but he doesn't know the difference so i'll just do it one day when he's not around [at this point i would like to remind you that i am terrible at taking photos! Sorry, i promise it looks fantastic in real life]

i spent my Christmas eve [until about 1am] and a chunk of Christmas morning, sewing 8 of the [Oh, Fransson!] Nine-Patch Doorstops [pdf file here] for my dad who has been asking me to make one for every door in his house [total 10!] for the past 12 months. See i made one for mum to keep her hall door open and then dad asked me for one for his office which i made for him...and that's about the point where he decided that eVeRy door needed one and he's been asking ever since so my Christmas present to him was to make the remaining 8 door stops. Because of this, i am revising my 2011 resolutions and adding:

13] i will commence the sewing of Christmas gifts aT LeaSt 3 months before the 25th of December!

i did manage to dig up one half made doorstop from the bottom of the unfinished project pile so that now makes 3 unfinished projects that i have completed...and 2011 hasn't even begun!

The first of the next two unfinished projects i plan to complete are a robot stuffed toy [pictured above] which i started about 12 months ago and will only take about 20 minutes to complete. It's my emulation of the cutest little robot toy i saw on [RevoluzZza] where you can also find a great tutorial with pattern to create you own little [RevoluzZzionary Monster]

Second is the 'Darci's Dress Up' quilt from [Quilted Quickies] which was a kit that my mum purchased for me when we went to the AQC [Australasian Quilting Convention] sometime last April. It's gorgeous and all of the hand sewing [pictured above] has been completed [i LoVe hand sewing, a girl's gotta have something to do on the train! - hence the reason why i have so many quilt tops and not many quilts hehe] so all that needs to be done is the embellishing, patchwork and quilting. i'm hoping to have it done once i return to work...in one and a half weeks.

i also have one more small project that i will be starting as soon as i have finished this blog post. My beautiful husband bought me a Cisco Flip mini camcorder for Christmas [shown below] and i am going to design a trendy little case for it to stop it being damaged. i will make sure that i take photos for a tutorial along the way.

In the next couple of days i'm going to begin working on a quick tutorial for the simple quilt i made for my son as promised and will hopefully be able to post it by the end of next week.

the to do list: 2011

theOkay so i'm not normally one to make a list of resolutions for new years but ...

a] finish all those unfinished craft projects...yes you know the ones that i mean - those projects that you have put into a box and at random given moments of inspiration you get them out telling yourself that you just WonT sToP until you've finished them...only to pull them out from under a huge pile of new projects [most of which will end up in that very same box] stowing them away again, for a later date another 6 months down the track.

2] invest some serious creative time into my etsy shop [dreamfctry.etsy.com] and turn it into a profitable business [someone's gotta pay for all this creativity] - totally new and different products and a total image revamp is somewhere in the cards.

c] to blog...this is my first blogging adventure and i am super excited. I want to inspire you, teach you, learn from you...at 23 years old i struggle to find anyone who even knows how to turn on a sewing machine...kids these days are so into their iPods and PSPs [not that i don't own an iPod btw...i'm not completely out of touch!] that I fear I will spend my old age helping to sew up the hem on everyone's suit pants hehe.

d] create new things. LoTs of new things.

5] to photograph like i have never photographed before. I am a TeRRibLe photographer, but I can learn...and I will.

f] write a bucket list...i have so many aspirations that sometimes they get forgotten in all this drama that is life as a mother/wife/friend/sister/daughter/human being and i don't ever want to look back and say 'i wish i had...'

7] save up the deposit to buy land and build our dream home...crafting on a budget this year, looks like i'll need to use up some of the hundreds of boxes of supplies that i already have hehe.

8] take a class in something - i'm particularly interested in screen printing, furniture upholstery, photography and dutch.

i] teach myself the art of amigurumi via YouTube...i have just discovered the wonders of YouTube [if you haven't already guessed, i am fairly computer illiterate] and all that it is able to teach me. so far i have learnt how to do my hair 'kesha style', smokey eyed make-up and basic furniture reupholstery among other randomness. Amigurumi is next on the list.

j] send birthdays cards out to everyone, on time, without forgetting. This one's on my list every year...this year i won't forget!

11] i WiLL organise my craft 'space'. i call it a space because essentially it is a corner in my bedroom and any little storage space that i can find. The plan is to de-fragment, sort and find suitable storage solutions.

...so there you have it, 11 resloutions for 2011. I have already begun the 'unfinished project project' by finising a quilt i had designed for my son [which i started about 6 months ago] for christmas and will add a quick tutorial so that you can design and make your very own.

By the way, i'm Bek and welcome to my blog - dreamfctry.
